Others are bypassing Hollywood and turning the cameras on themselves, in hopes of becoming the next reality star. First, the so-called balloon boy family, and then the alleged White House gate crashers -- both families crash-landed into scandal while trying to launch reality TV ambitions.

Ten years before Busboys & Poets arrived, but long after Ben’s Chili Bowl starting selling half-smokes, the 1600 block of U Street NW was home to a restaurant supply store, a crappy pizza joint, local dive Stetson’s Famous Bar & Grill, some vacant storefronts, and, across the street, fire and police stations. Because half the block is dedicated to urban peacekeeping, it seemed destined to be ignored, relegated to the D.C. development dustbin.

David von Storch owns or co-owns multiple locations of Capitol City Brewing Co., Vida Fitness, Aura Spas and Bang Hair Salons. Now, the entrepreneur has created a reality show called "Complicated Order."

Washington Business Journal: Von Storch tries for role in D.C.'s reality TV scene

Vida Fitness: The man behind the madness. The life and career of gym, salon and brewery owner David von Storch may sound like an improbable subject for a reality TV series, but get ready. It just may come to a prime-time lineup near you. Von Storch, who owns D.C.-based Vida Fitness, Capitol City Brewing Co. and Bang Salon, is working with New York production company Celebrity Endeavors on a pilot episode of "Complicated Order," the working title for the show. The pilot wrapped up production over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Von Storch is just the latest in a line of D.C. business figures to let cameras into their lives, whether they've sharpened their knives to become "Top Chefs" or sifted through their swatches for HGTV's "Design Star."
